What’s Next?
As a church, we’re still supposed to be basking in the glow of
the holiday season, giving thanks for the birth of Jesus, and the revelation to
the whole world that God is here out of God’s love for everyone. Ultimately, this is what we come to find at
Epiphany, when the magi meet Jesus, God’s presence is actually revealed to all
peoples.
In these weeks after the Epiphany, and before Lent starts with
Ash Wednesday on February 10, we’ll be looking at some of God’s other
revelations through the ages - through prophets of the Old Testament.
This Sunday, January 17,
we’ll be launching a new series in worship - Answering the Call.
As we remember the revelation of God’s love for us in the birth
of Jesus, it is also a call to look back through the Word of God to the many
times that God has reached out and into individual lives to bring communities
and peoples together.Even in the toughest times, God calls leaders forward, to
lead, to comfort, and to challenge a broken culture. God is calling us to the very same things,
even today. In exploring call stories
from Ancient Israel, and the fear and trepidation surrounding them, God can
help us hear God’s call for us today.
If you would like to read ahead, here’s how things are going to
go:
January 17 | " Called to Listen" | Isaiah 62:1-5
How can we hear God’s call to us in the darkest times?
January 24 | "Called to Build" | Nehemiah 8:1-3, 5-6, 8-10
In building new things, how do we learn from the past without
being held back by it?
February 7 | "Called to Hope" | Jeremiah 1:4-10
Can we really be called by God at any time?
February 14 | "Called to Follow" | Exodus 34:29-35
What if we were told that following God would be the hardest
thing we’d ever have to do?
There are so many questions to explore! I am called. You are called. Will we answer
the call?
Don’t miss this Sunday!
In Christ,
Rev Jarrod
